The European Union is
an economic and political union. Although it has 27 member states now, it was
first formed with 6 countries. After World War II, different unions were
established such as European Coal and Steal Community, European Atomic Energy
Community and European Economic Community. Then these communities were united
as European Community. After a while European Community’s name was changed as
Eurepean Union. However, what was the purpose of the participant countries’ aim
for establishing this union? There are indeed main causes of forming this union
such as reverting back their old economic situations after the World War II and
combining their powers.
In the Europe two
important wars took place between 1908 and 1945. In these wars both European
countries and the other countries were affected in terms of economy. Economic
crises took place in these countries during these years and due to the fact
that they decided to form a union to remove the effects of the wars in a veloce
way. Thus, they did not have to pay taxes for the products that they imported
and exported and this situation faciliated their reconstructions.
The second cause of
establishing the European Union is being more powerful. In other words, the
European countries wanted to advance not only in economoy but also in politic
and social life. Today, America is dominant in the world and The European Union
stand against the America. Because of the power of America, the European
countries wanted to get rid of the pressure of America and wanted not only
created their wealthes and capitals but also improved them.
After
looking at two main causes of establishing the European Union namely, the
desire of Eurpeon countries to revert back to their old economies and combining
their powers, now let’s look at its two main effects which are benefiting from
education and traveling without visas.
The first effect of the
European Union on its participants is education. Erasmus Programme became valid
in 1987 and since then 1.5 million students have benefited from it. Thanks to
that programme, so many students can go other European countries for education
without any restriction. They can improve themselves in terms of language. In
addition to this, students can also make use of the facilities that the country
presents to develop themselves.
The second effect is
traveling without visas. The European countries’ citizens can travel through
Europe without any restriction. They can also experience new cultures and
expand their knowledge by doing sightseeings. Thus, people can improve
themselves by traveling. They can also interact with the natives of the country
that they go.
To sum up, after
looking at these causes and effects, it is obvious that advantages of being in
European Union is an undeniable fact. We can think the Europe as a country and
the European countries as cities because the Eurepean countries are under the
same roof. Being in a union facilitates people’s life styles in terms of both
education and traveling. I believe that everybody wants to live in a country
which belongs to a union.
